The program incorporates many open-source software packages into a coherent interface using the concept of scripting. DataMelt can be used with several scripting languages for the Java platform, such as Jython (the Python programming language), BeanShell, Groovy and JRuby (Ruby). The programming can also be done in native Java. Finally, symbolic calculations can be done using Matlab/Octave high-level interpreted language.
DataMelt, as a Java application, runs on Windows, Linux, Mac and the Android operating systems. It be used on any hardware, such as desktops, laptops, netbooks, production servers and android tablets. It can run in either a GUI-driven mode or a batch mode.
DataMelt is hosted by the jWork.ORG scientific computing community.
